No pressure decision on Maratha quota: Mah CM

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan today said the decision about Maratha reservation would not be taken under any pressure.

"The State Government would not take any decision on Maratha reservation under pressure or keeping elections in mind," Chavan told reporters after a cabinet meeting here today.

"It is sad to hear allegations that the Government is under pressure to take the decision. It is a social issue and the decision would come after considering impact on the society," Chavan said.

Chavan's remarks came after women activists of Jijau organisation entered official residence of Cooperatives Minister Harshwardhan Patil to demand quota for the Maratha community.

Chavan said the Government has decided to provide Rs 101 crore for development of minorities in the state. It includes various educational schemes, scholarships and incentives to parents, he said
