No water cut in Mumbai during Diwali

Good news for Mumbaikars with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation deciding that there will be no water cut on Diwali. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Mumbai civic body's officials on Thursday after a demand from corporators earlier this week.

Mumbai is suffering from a 20 per cent water cut in time (15 per cent in quantity) since September. But the civic body had revoked the cut during important festivals such as Eid and Ganesh Chaturthi.

Corporators had demanded a similar relaxation of cut last week for the four days of Diwali. Even the Mayor had pressed for this demand.

Following the decision taken at the group leaders' meeting, the BMC on Thursday declared that there will be no water cut during the festival since demand is more during festive season.

Owing to an erratic monsoon, a 20% water cut was imposed in Mumbai from midnight of August 26 this year while a 50% water cut was imposed for bulk consumers like malls, star hotels, factories, stadiums.
