MNS's Marathi manoos cause takes a backseat as a North Indian doctor treats Kunda Thackeray at the Lilavati Hospital

When push came to shove yesterday, MNS chief Raj Thakeray put his faith in a North Indian doctor to treat his ailing mother.

Kunda Thackeray (69), was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital at 6 am yesterday and put under the care of senior interventional cardiologist Dr Anil Sharma, in spite of there being two Maharashtrian cardiologistsu00a0- Dr Nitin Gokhale and Dr Prakash Sanzgiriu00a0- attached to the hospital. She underwent an angiography later in the day, and had already undergone an ECG on Tuesday.

'No discomfort'
Dr Sharma yesterday said that there was neither discomfort nor pressure from the family. "We treat patients on the merit of the disease. Mrs Thackeray's vessels are fine, and hopefully we will discharge her by tomorrow," said Sharma. Party spokesperson Nitin Sardesai said Kunda Thackeray was ill due to stress. "Suggesting a motive behind choosing a North Indian doctor is stretching it too far," said Sardesai.

Family first
Bal Thackeray called a relative to ask about Kunda, soon after she was rushed to the hospital yesterday. A source from the Shiv Sena said, "Balasaheb called a relative close to both the families and asked about Raj's ailing mother." Uddhav did not reply to the messages sent by the reporter.

Did you know?
Raj's legal counsel Akhilesh Chaubey and the party's vice president Vageesh Saraswat are also North Indians.
