The next time you want to enjoy a night safari or stargazing session while camping with family and friends, you don’t have to venture out of the city. Authorities at Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) are setting up seven air-conditioned, waterproof tents along with bunk beds within the park. They plan to complete all the arrangements within a month.

“Out of the seven tents, two will be converted into dormitories with six bunk beds that can accommodate 12 students or tourists. The remaining five will be family tents with attached toilets and personal sit outs. With decent camping facilities, SGNP can become an ideal weekend getaway for nature enthusiasts.

Since these tents are air-conditioned and waterproof, people can stay in them in summer as well as monsoon,” added SGNP Director and Chief Conservator of Forest Vikas Gupta. Officials are coming up with this initiative at the national park, as they want to create awareness among citizens about the ecosystem.

“We want more people to visit SGNP which is the highest visited national park within city limits. We are upgrading the camping facility for visitors so that they can enjoy stargazing sessions in the night with an expert, listen to animal and bird calls, go for a morning trek in the forest with a naturalist etc,” Gupta added.

The authorities have yet not decided about the rates they will be charging for the accommodation in AC tents.
