A police officer from the Vinoba Bhave Nagar police station, said some parents alleged that a similar case had been registered against Nair seven years ago. "He was, however, acquitted of all charges," the officer said.

Later, at home, the victim narrated the entire incident to her mother, who registered a complaint against the principal with the Vinoba Bhave Nagar police station in Kurla (West).

"Nair has been arrested under section 354 (assaulting a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), section 341 (wrongful restraint) and section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
He has been kept in the Kurla police lockup for the night, and will be presented before the Kurla court tomorrow," said Inspector Balasaheb Waghmode, the investigating officer in the case, last night.
Sheela Nair, secretary of the trust that manages the school, said, "We can't comment on anything now. We'll conduct an inquiry before taking any decisions."
