Parents express disbelief that their sons raped TISS student

Balinkumar Borgohain, who came to Mumbai on learning about the arrest of his son Kundan for the alleged rape of a TISS student, believes his son is not guilty, but adds, "Punish my son if he has done wrong." He firmly

believes that justice will prevail.

According to Borgohain, Kundan's mother had left for Assam a few days ago to celebrate Bihu. "Kundan stayed alone in the flat during this period, but called us regularly. My wife is in shock since she learnt of Kundan's arrest," Borgohain added.

Pradip Borkataki and his wife, parents of Anish, another accused in the case, who is pursuing a course in Numismatics and Archaeology from Bombay University, have also arrived from Assam.

Borgohain as well as Borkataki had a difficult time getting their seniors in the Assam state government to grant them leave, as they had been assigned election duties.

Both parents leave for Assam today. Arpan Rajput, the defence lawyer representing Kundan and Anish, said, "It would be inappropriate to comment because the matter is subjudice."

Meanwhile, the Trombay police arrested two more accused Jaskaran Singh Bhullar and Harshvardhan from Churchgate.

The Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Kurla, remanded the two to custody till April 28. Vinamra Soni, is the only accused out of the six charged who is still absconding.u00a0

Anish, Jaskaran and Vinamra have found an ally in Rohit (name changed), a hostel mate.
Rohit has been friends with Anish since their school days in Assam. He said, "Anish is a very good person. I have known him since childhood. Jaskaran and Vinamra also never got into any mischief. They haven't absconded. They did not get a confirmed ticket for Jamshedpur for Saturday. Since they got one for Tuesday, they left the ISH that evening."u00a0

Authorities speak
Hostel authorities don't seem to be too fond of the three accused. A staff member said, "Jaskaran was very mischievous. He did not pay for the dabba service he used. He also ran away home without paying for the laundry. He was in the habit ofu00a0 getting into petty fights."
Dr Harichand, the warden, who took charge a month ago, said, he didn't know the boys very well, but added, "If they are guilty, they must be punished."
