Environmentalist and street resident Bittu Sehgal said that the BMC was resorting to 'inhuman tactics' to fell the trees. "After the roots have been cut off, the tree is being left to die on its own.

The BMC promised that the trees, all 91 of them, would be transplanted but only eight can be successfully done. Their promises are all lip service," said Sehgal.

The BMC that aims to widen the narrow two way lane that services the post residential area ran into conflict with residents who have said that some trees are more than a hundred years old.
"They're cutting down heritage, that's what they're doing," said a resident.
