Rs 4 crore assets seized from I-T Commissioner

CBI officials have seized property worth Rs 4 crore from I-T commissioner Daya Shankar, days after he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh, at his office in Bandra Kurla Complex.

Searches were carried out in Delhi, Ghaziabad and Lucknow, where the high-ranking officer was believed to have invested money in various real estate deals.

During the raids, various incriminating documents pertaining to the investments were seized.

Investigations undertaken by ACB officials revealed that Shankar owned property and cash worth a total sum of Rs 4 crore the inventory includes a flat at Sarvodaya Enclave in New Delhi worth Rs 4 lakh, an apartment in Lucknow worth Rs 1 lakh, office property in New Delhi worth Rs 2 lakh, a flat in Patiala worth Rs 4 lakh, a house in Ghaziabad worth Rs 7 lakh, and agricultural land in Uttar Pradesh worth Rs 1 lakh.

They also unearthed cash worth Rs 8 lakh from his Mumbai residence, Rs 4 lakh from his home in Ghaziabad, and Rs 2 crore from his chartered accountant in Lucknow.

"We have Shankar's custody till September 13, and are positive that investigations will yield more property," said Abhin Modak, superintendent of police, CBI (ACB).
