The SC that conducted a hearing on the affidavit filed by the Maharashtra government in the dahi handi case today, has sent the matter back to the high court for reconsideration in view of the written submissions filed by the state. The high court has barred minors from being part of the human pyramids formed to break the dahi handis. The apex court has, however, said that the height of the pyramids will be restricted to 20 feet.
The affidavit states that the Maharashtra Police has issued guidelines for the event, according to which, the organisers are directed to make arrangements for mattresses to be laid out below all Dahi Handi pyramids across the state. To ensure participants’ safety, chest guard helmets and safety belts will be provided. All participants will be registered for security purposes.
In the guidelines, it has also been stated that a strong nylon rope network will be used at every venue. First aid and ambulances will be stationed at all venues. Also, participants should be provided medical aid immediately in case of injury.
