Security cameras. Check. Multi-man Security force. Check. However, a Tardeo resident and proprietor had his sense of personal security shattered on Wednesday morning when in a span of 20 minutes, his Rs 11 lakh car was stolen from his building's parking lot right under the nose of the eight security men who man the premises.
Dhiren Soni, owner of a general supermarket at Tardeo, returned home on Wednesday night at 9.30 pm and had parked his car on the driveway leading to the gate. However the car was nowhere to be found the next morning at 8 am.
"The security had no idea what had happened and the person who washes my car said he hadn't seen it," said Soni, angrily. CCTV camera footage shows that at around 5 am, a black car drove in, took a round at the premises and stopped at Soni's car. Both cars were then seen leaving the premises with the watchman asleep at his post at about 5.17am.
The resident of Enterprise Apartments at Tardeo that houses more than a thousand residents is livid. "We have eight security guards and more than four CCTVs. What is the point? We're not even allowed to keep car alarms on as they disturb residents you are charged Rs 500 if yours goes off," said Soni. Officials from Master Guard Force that supply personnel to the building said that they were looking into the matter.
Building manager Umesh Adkhale said a bike and SUV had also been stolen in the last six months but the vehicles were recovered. "We're hoping that the Scorpio is returned too," he said.
Police at Tardeo police station where the case is registered said that no one had been apprehended in the matter yet. "Car thefts are common but we are currently looking into the matter," said an officer.
