The controversial, politically-connected, builder has put two 1,000 sq ft flats owned by him in Walkeshwar on the market and has bought a 10,000 sq ft flat in Worli instead

Pune-based builder Avinash Bhonsale, best known for allegedly depriving CIDCO of nearly Rs 275 crore in a Seawoods land deal and covering a distance of 20 km every Sunday in a helicopter to play cricket with his buddies, has put two of his flats in Walkeshwar up for sale.

Flat number 601 and 602, admeasuring 1,000 sq ft each, at the upmarket Sankalp building have been put on the market by Bhonsale, who has bought a 10,000 sq ft flat at Nishika Terraces in Worli instead.

At the prevailing rate of more than Rs 70,000 per sq ft in the building, experts say that the Walkeshwar flats can fetch Bhonsale nearly 15 crore.

The Worli flat, on the other hand, commands a price of nearly Rs 40 crore at the current prevailing rate of Rs 40,000 per sq ft.

The exact time when Bhonsale bought this flat is not known. Gopal Maheshwari, a realtor from South Mumbai, said, "The residential property in which Bhonsale has bought the flat at Worli is an exclusive one and the building only has one flat on each floor with each flat measuring nearly 10,000 sq ft."

Bhonsale has already put the Walkeshwar flats on public notice so that anybody else with a claim on them can come forward.

Confirming this, Bhonsale said, "Yes, the flats are on sale but my son is looking into it. I am not aware of the price that the flats are going for. Whatever price I quote will be a hypothetical one and, hence, I wouldn't like to comment on it," he said.

"We have shifted from Walkeshwar to Worli and bought a spacious flat there, which is sea-facing," he added.
Builders are wondering, however, why Bhonsale left such a good building in Walkeshwar, which is also rumoured to have a flat owned by a senior NCP leader who is his good friend, to move to Worli.

> Last month, the HC stayed CIDCO's cancellation of allotment of a 12-acre plot in Seawoods to Bhonsale.
CIDCO had sought to cancel the allotment after it was revealed that Bhonsale had converted part of the plot, reserved for a hotel, to a residential one and sold it to another builder for a whopping Rs 275 crore. The entire plot had been bought by Bhonsale from CIDCO for Rs 282 crore.

> In April 2010 ('Avinash Bhonsale's flighted delivery'), MiD DAY had reported how Bhonsale travelled from Baner to Sinhagad Instituteu00a0a distance of 30 minutes by road by helicopter every Sunday to play cricket with his friends. The helicopter took him only 5 minutes, thus saving 25 minutes of travel time.
