After a lifetime of practicing law, a 62-year-old advocate has become a victim of injustice.
Padma Bhatt's tenant allegedly harassed her, forced her to not only vacate the building, but also threatened to kill her each time she approached him for rent.
Bhatt, who owns Ramchandra Bhuvan, a building in Parel, moved out of her house in September 2008. "I had rented the neighbouringu00a0 flat to Umrao Singh in 1983.

Umrao has not paid rent for three years and when I went to collect it from Dhotre he threatened me," said Bhatt.
After Bhatt raised her voice about the illegal leasing out,u00a0 Dhotre began harassing her.
"He often passed lewd comments. One day, a biker pushed me and I met with an accident. It could have been a ploy," said the senior citizen.
That's not all. Dhotre has been living with five others who, she alleges, drink and create a ruckus.
"I have young daughters and was worried for their safety. Hence, I moved out," said Bhatt.
She even filed a complaint with the Bhoiwada police station against Dhotre last year.u00a0 "The police conducted an inquiry, but no probe. When I filed a court case in May 2008, they warned Dhotre."
Inspector S More of the Bhoiwada police station, said, "We did our best to protect the old lady. Such complaints keep coming to us."
The Other Side
When MiD DAY contacted Umrao Singh, he said, "I have given the room to my nephew and thus I'm not involved in the court matter."
Dhotre denied harassing Bhatt. "I have nothing to do with this case as I'm living at my uncle's place. I have not caused any trouble to the old lady," he said. The case is still pending in court.
