Man accused of raping minor commits suicide at the same spot in Ahmednagar district where tainted senior inspector Arun Borude ended his life

IN what is either a coincidence or proof of an ironic twist, a man accused of raping a 15-year-old girl committed suicide at the same spot where disgraced senior inspector Arun Borude met with his death in December.

According to the Shrirampur GRP, they recovered a man's body from the same spot near Belapur railway station in Ahmednagar district at 1.45 am on January 14 where Borude had allegedly committed suicide.

Sanjay Masu Bodhak, accused of raping a 15-year-old, committed suicide at the same spot where disgraced senior inspector Arun Borude died in December last year

The man had flung himself onto the Pune-Patna superfast express.

A search of the body produced a driving licence identifying the man as Sanjay Masu Bodhak (35), a driver by profession and resident of Nandur Village, which is 10 km from the suicide spot.

Investigation revealed that Bodhak was wanted for raping a minor in his village three years back.

An FIR under charges of molestation was registered against Bodhak and he was in jail for a few months before getting bail.

The molestation case was being heard in the district sessions court and the verdict was expected on January 20, which had triggered a bout of depression in Bodhak, said a family member.

"Bodhak was accused of rape but the police had registered an FIR of molestation at the request of the rape victim's family," said an officer from the Shrirampur GRP.

Police said Bodhak's in-laws' place was near the tracks where he committed suicide and he often visited them.
"It is true that Bodhak committed suicide at the same spot from which Borude's body was recovered.

Bodhak was accused of molesting a minor. We have registered an accidental death report," said Habib M Khan, incharge, Shrirampur GRP.

Borude case
Arun Borude (52) had allegedly committed suicide on the railway tracks near Belapur station on December 30, 2010. The 1983 batch officer of the Mumbai Police was dismissed from service after his name cropped up in the rape case of a 15-year-old girl in suburban Powai. He was absconding after Powai police registered an FIR against him on November 1.
