Ten persons were injured after a Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) bus rammed in to a shop at sector 17 near APMC market early morning on Wednesday at Vashi.

The incident took place at around 6.30 am. The bus was heading towards Vashi depot, when a speeding truck coming from behind and rammed the bus after which the driver of the bus lost control. The vehicle came to an halt only after crashing in to a tyre shop.

Ten passengers who received minor injuries along with the bus driver Madhukar Wandre (47) were then rushed to municipal hospital for treatment. The truck driver identified as Firooz Sheikh (33) who was speeding the vehicle, was heading towards Thane from Palm Beach road. He couldn't control the speed of his truck and dashed against the rear door of the bus that was coming from adjacent direction.

"Since it was early morning time, the truck driver was speeding and could not control the vehicle and as a result of the impact, the bus turned left and crashed in to shops adjacent to footpaths. No casualties were reported as the shops were closed. We have registered an FIR against the truck driver," said Senior PI Suraj Padvi from Vashi police station.
A case has been registered against Firooz under section 279, 337, 427 of Indian Penal code and 184 of Motor Vehicle act.
Meanwhile, owner of the shop, which got damage has demanded compensation for the incident. "The crash had damaged my shutter and other electronic systems worth around Rs 1.5 lakh. Thankfully no one was present at shop when the incident took place. I want compensation for my loss," said Rohit Rajput the owner of the shop.
