Passengers waiting on Kalyan railway station witnessed a rather odd incident yesterday morning. A drug addict, who was pelting stones at a friend, hit a 24-year-old man, injuring his ear. The Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP) have arrested the accused.

The passengers were standing at platform number 4 at Kalyan railway station, when suddenly, the accused pelted stones from platform number 3. Sources from the GRP claim that the addict was trying to hit a friend who had been teasing him, but since he was standing in a crowd, it hit someone else.

The accused, identified as Gokul More (30) has been arrested by the Kalyan GRP. “We have arrested the accused More, who is an addict, and have registered a case against him,” said Anant Rane, Senior Police Inspector, Kalyan GRP. Kalyan GRP has registered a case against More under section 338 (causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
Seven stitches
The victim has been identified as Dasharat Rai, who is a resident of Bhiwandi and works as a salesman. Speaking to mid-day, Rai said he had come to Kalyan station with his maternal uncle Parshuram Rai at around 11.30 am. “My uncle was leaving for Jharkhand and was to board a train from platform number 4 at 12.15 pm. I came to drop him and we saw that a man from platform number 3 started pelting stones at us,” Rai said.
“One of the stones hit my left ear, injuring it. Many other passengers started running and about four people suffered injuries. My uncle boarded his train and left. I was later taken to Rukmani Bai Hospital and have received around 7 stitches,” he added.
Meanwhile, Janardhan Rai, Dashrat’s other uncle, received a call at around 12 pm about the incident. Janardhan said, “I was asked to reach Rukmani Bai Hospital, where I found that Darsharat was hit with a stone. He was discharged at around 7:30 pm after treatment and after the police finished taking my statement.”
Hit RPF officers
Railway Police Force (RPF) sources said the accused had stones in a plastic bag and was pelting them continuously. RPF constables DP Sharma and Abdul Shaikh followed the accused and caught hold of him. “After the stone pelting menace started, our officers on duty at the station followed the accused More, who later pelted stone at them. We caught hold of him and handed him over to the Kalyan GRP, who registered a case against him,” added a senior officer from Kalyan GRP.
