Is a gang of women beggars out to burgle shops? The Khadakpada police suspect so after two such incidents have come forward in the last two weeks in Kalyan and Thane. The latest was on Sunday, when a 32-year-old woman was attacked and beaten up in her beauty parlour by a gang after she refused to pay up.
According to the police, complainant Meena Singh, owns the Color Tree beauty parlour in Kalyan West. The incident took place on Sunday when Singh had just opened the parlour and was cleaning.
In her statement, Singh said she was alone in the shop, when seven to eight women along with children entered the shop.

"Neighbours and many other shopkeepers in the area had informed me about robbery attempts. So, as soon as they entered, I tried to get them out, but I was pushed out instead. During all of this, they bit my right hand. Then, I came out and started screaming for help, but nobody came forward," said Singh.
The women ultimately manage to steal Rs 2,000 from her.
A case has been registered at the Khadakpada police station under relevant sections of the IPC. "We have registered a case and are trying to trace the women seen in the CCTV footage. We suspect them to be beggars who approach people and commit the crime," said Hemant Dhole, police sub-inspector, Khadakpada police station.
