The duo had got into a fight during a drinking session on the night of September 5, and the matter came to light after cops found the battered body the next morning near BMC garden in Juhu Koliwada, Santacruz (West). Police said that the accused was present at the crime spot when they were conducting a panchnama, after which he fled to his home in Uttar Pradesh.
After receiving a tip-off that the accused had returned to the city, the cops picked him up from the vicinity of a mall in Borivli yesterday. Durgalal Yadav was arrested for murdering his eunuch friend Sanjay alias Shiv Bachhan Vishwakarma alias Rupmati.
“Yadav has confessed to his crime. He has been charged with murder and destruction of evidence under different sections of the IPC. We have handed him over to the Santacruz police for investigations,” said Senior Inspector, Sanjay Satardekar, of Unit IX. During interrogations, Santacruz resident Yadav told cops that he was friends with Rupmati, a resident of Mahim, for the last six months and both of them would often drink together.
Vulgar messages
In June-end, Yadav was deeply disturbed after his family in UP started getting vulgar messages. He then realised that prior to his family receiving the SMSes, Rupmati had taken his phone on one occasion. For some reason, he began to believe that his eunuch friend had transferred all his contacts to her phone and was messaging his family. Police said that the duo had frequent fights and were not on good terms since then. On September 5, the two, however, met up and had a heated argument over the matter during a drinking session.
After consuming half a bottle of beer, Yadav cracked it on Rupmati’s head. Then, in a fit of rage, he picked up a stone and crushed his friend’s head with it. He then removed all his friend’s clothing and also disposed off the murder weapon from the spot. He went home, cleaned himself up and went to bed. The next morning, however, he went back to the crime spot to keep an eye on the police investigations. Police are, however, are still unclear as to who sent Yadav’s family members the offensive messages, which led to the killing. u00a0
