And you thought commuting on Sundays is easy. Those who plan to travel today need to plan their journey carefully. A range of issues, from the complete shut down of the south-bound carriageway of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL), to railway blocks on the Western and Central line, to a cyclothon event, are set to create a major traffic impediment.
Sea Link repair
The BWSL will be shut for all south-bound vehicles for 19 hours, from 4.30 am to 11.30 pm, because a tower of the BWSL will be dismantled. According to a traffic police official, "In view of the dismantling of Tower Crane of P-19 being undertaken, the south bound carriageway will be closed for regular traffic on Sunday."
Western Railway
The other problem expected to compound matters is the jumbo block on the Western Railway. According to officials, in order to carry out maintenance work, a five-hour long jumbo block will take place between Santacruz and Goregaon stations on Sunday from 10.35 am to 3.35 pm, on both Up and Down slow lines.
Central Railway
Central Railway will operate special traffic blocks between Kurla and Ghatkopar on Sunday. The block is being undertaken so that the Kurla Route Relay Interlocking (RRI) cabin can be shifted to Vidyavihar. There will be no services available for Nahur, Kanjurmarg and Vidyavihar stations. The first is a five-hour block (it began at 9.45 pm on Saturday). The next block starts on Sunday, from 1.15 am to 11.15 am on the down fast line and from 1.15 am to 1.15 pm on the up fast line.
Cyclothon
Adding to your woes is the accumulation of 6,000 cyclists at the Bandra Kurla Complex. From 5 am to 10 am, these cyclists will participate in the second edition of the BSA Hercules Cyclothon Mumbai 2011.
