The patient, Sabeena Sheikh (26) who is currently admitted in the gynaecology department of the hospital has now filed a complaint with the hospital authorities and also approached Sion police station authorities as well.
Speaking to midday, Dr Rajesh Dere, associate professor of the forensic department at the hospital said, "The case was referred to me on Tuesday and following a police complaint, we are now sending the blood samples of the woman and the stillborn baby for DNA tests to see if the allegations are true or not."
The samples will be sent to Kalina's forensic laboratory for the DNA tests on Wednesday morning. Dr Dere further added that it was a full term stillbirth. The Shivaji Nagar resident's husband, who is a convict, is completing his sentence as of now due to which the woman is now recuperating from her ordeal in the general ward of the hospital.
"We recorded the woman and doctor's statements after the case was brought to our notice. The patient heard from the hospital staff that her infant who had died in her womb was a male child and hence refused to claim the body from the morgue which was that of a girl child. We have not lodged an FIR yet but further investigations are now on in the hospital," said B Z Gavit, senior police inspector of Sion police station.
