Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro
Rail Route
Length 11.07 km
Project started 2008
Date of completion August 2011. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) now says that it would be completed by Diwali. But the date of completion as per concession agreement between them and Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) is March 2012.
Total cost Rs 2,356 crore
Present status About 74 per cent work is complete. The civic work would be completed by April-May 2011, after which trial runs will be conducted.

Benefits
Will connect western suburbs to the eastern suburbs through rail for the first time.
Reduced travel time The entire 11.07 km distance will be covered in 21 minutes, compared to the present 90 minutes by road.
Less pollution Since this will ease the road traffic, vehicular pollution would be reduced considerably. It also provides rail-based access to MIDC, SEEPZ and other commercial developments. The issue of metro rail bridge over the Andheri railway station and Eastern Express Highway has been sorted.

Total cost Rs 2,716 crore
Present status 73 per cent work completed. The civil work, earlier expected to be completed by December 2010 will now be done by February 2011. The MMRDA is yet to receive clearance from theu00a0 environment ministry, as a small section of the stretch comes under the coastal regulation zone near Mahul creek.

Benefits

The Monorail is a lightweight system and cost of execution is less, compared to heavy rail systems. It also takes approximately 1.5 to 2 years for execution. Capacity of the 4-car monorail system is 8,000 to 12,000 passengers per hour per direction (PHPD). Compared with other systems, the Monorail produces less noise and is eco-friendly, and hence, is easily acceptable in denser residential locales.

Flyovers
Work for flyovers on Dr B R Ambedkar road and at other places in Mumbai. (King's Circle-Tulpule Chowk, Lalbaug, Suman Nagar, Burfiwalla Junction(Andheri) is being completed on a warfront.

Work started June 2008
Date of completion December 2010 (Now all the flyovers will be completed by March 2011, the new deadline set by MMRDA. They have already thrown open the northbound arm of Kings Circle-Tulpule Chowk flyover recently because of which the traffic on Dr Ambedkar has reduced.)
Total cost Rs 550 crore.

Benefits

Will reduce the present traffic problem on
Dr Ambedkar road the peak hours and will also bring down the pollution level. Someone driving on Dr Ambedkar Road takes 30 minutes to reach from Byculla to Sion at present. After the completion of flyovers, this would come down to approximately 10 minutes.

Sahar Elevated Road

Work started December 2008
Date of completion May 2011
Total cost Rs 287 crore
Present status 75 per cent work is completed

Benefits

The Sahar elevated road will take you straight to the International Airport from the Western Express (WE) Highway. The six-lane elevated approach will have four entry, and two exit points. Once the project is completed, it would help passengers heading towards the airport to reach on time.

Eastern Freeway
Total length 22 km
Work started December 2008
Date of completion July 2011
Total cost Rs 531cr
Present status more than 70 per cent work completed.

Benefits

The 22 km freeway runs from South Mumbai up to Ghatkopar via P D'Mello Road, Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT Road), Anik and Panjrapol. Once completed, the road will help ease the truck and trailer traffic on P D'Mello Road.
It promises to bypass 28 traffic signals, and starts from the Prince of Wales Museum at Fort. It will also provide direct connectivity to the new CST terminus, and facilitate transportation of goods to and from the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) area. The project will be completed in three phases the first 12-km stretch from Fort to Anik depot that includes P D'Mello Road; the second 5-km phase from Anik to Panjarpol (Shivaji Square); and Panjarpol to Mankhurd, and then to Ghatkopar on the Eastern Express Highway.
