Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray criticised the Maharashtra government for inaugurating the Mumbai coastal road project while stressing the project's inadequate status and claiming that the administration was seeking undue credit.

Thackeray's comments came on Monday, echoing worries made by former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who emphasised the government's disregard for numerous finished projects, reported ANI.

Former Maharashtra minister, Thackeray said, "The work of Mumbai coastal road isn't completed yet but the government is inaugurating it just to get credit. On the flip side there are so many projects that are completed but the 'illegal CM' has no time to inaugurate them. The way farmers' front is there in Delhi, similar fronts will rise here in Maharashtra. The government should think about these issues; instead, they put labels like urban naxals."

According to the report by news agency, on Saturday, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal delivered an update on the Coastal Road Project, stating that delayed work is being hastened.

"Some work is still pending. I did surveillance of the entire area last night. Weight tests are going on to see what effect heavy vehicles will have on the road. All this will be completed in the next two to three days. I believe the coastal road will be inaugurated by February 28-29 or March 2-3," Iqbal Singh Chahal told ANI.

According to the report, on February 2, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation announced its budget for 2024-25, which totalled Rs 59,954.75 crore and included Rs 2900.00 crore for the coastal road project.

The corporation highlighted a project of approximately Rs 35,955.07 crore to build the Mumbai Coastal Road Versova interchange to Dahisar interchange and GMLR, which is projected to be completed in about 48 months and divided into six packages.

Mumbai Police launch probe against Sena (UBT)

Meanwhile, another report by ANI stated that Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing has launched an investigation into Shiv Sena (UBT) after the camp led by Eknath Shinde filed a complaint of forgery. The faction led by Uddhav Thackeray withdrew Rs 50 crore from party funds despite ECI having given Shinde camp the recognition as real Shiv Sena, Shinde faction said in their complaint.
