Of the 93 women candidates who contested the polls in the state, 13 won and 11 of them are from AAP alone

AAP’s Dr Charanjit Singh won from Chamkaur Sahib constituency
To ensure party’s victory in the Punjab Assembly elections, the AAP fielded candidates from all walks of life and most of them are from non-political background. These included medical practitioners, and nine of them even won.
Like AAP, other parties, too, fielded candidates with medical backgrounds. It is for the first time in the history of Punjab that the Assembly would have 12 MBBS doctors, including nine from AAP, and one each from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Most of the winners will be first-time MLAs.
