Ex-CM blames MVA govt for communal violence in Amravati, a few other areas in state, says leaders from ruling combine mum on attack on shops owned by Hindus

A day after a host of his party workers including a former minister were arrested in the communal riots in Amravati, BJP leader and ex-CM Devendra Fadnavis accused the MVA government of sponsoring the minority protests that led to a riot-like situation in many places in Maharashtra last weekend. He said the Shiv Sena-led government was partisan to the people from the minorities who have been let free despite being responsible for arson and violence.

Addressing the BJP’s state executive on Tuesday, Fadnavis said protests by Muslims against the events that did not take place in Tripura were part of an experiment to be implemented countrywide against the Modi government. “It is not a simple incident. Since they don’t have anything against Modi’s development agenda, they have come up with an idea of polarising the minorities and creating anarchy in the country,” he alleged.
He said disinformation was spread about Tripura since October 28 by circulating the photos of a burnt party office as a mosque, pictures from some other fires were used to say holy books were burnt and some pictures used were from incidents in Pakistan. “It was surprising that [Congress leader] Rahul Gandhi, who knew the facts, also tweeted about alleged atrocities against Muslims in Tripura. And then, morchas were planned in several cities like Nanded, Malegaon, Amravati in Maharashtra which is now a laboratory for such experiments, because they think they have a government here and will get away with it,” he said, adding that no MVA leaders spoke when the shops of Hindus were burnt down.
Fadnavis said the minority affairs minister Nawab Malik accused the BJP of funding riots to cover up the real source of the money. “Since Malik knows the financier, he is creating confusion with a covering fire.” He said BJP did not indulge in rioting, but if they were under attack, they wouldn’t spare the attackers. “We will take to the streets if the MVA government supports such arson.” He came down heavily on the MVA accusing it of running the most corrupt government. “Now nobody can stop us from protesting against it. Don’t think much about coming back to power. If we do come back, it will be a bonus. But now we must fight for the people,” he appealed to the party workers.
