The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority will strive to complete the elevated stretch of the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road by the end of March next year, the infra body has said. The route will connect Kapadia junction with Vakola junction and is expected to reduce traffic congestion at BKC and Kalina.

MMRDA Commissioner SVR Srinivas visited the SCLR extension project site on Monday and reviewed its progress. “At this site visit, the Metropolitan Commissioner instructed the team working on the SCLR project to bring the expected project completion date closer to March 31, 2022,” MRMDA tweeted.

Once operational, motorists going from BKC will be able to reach the Western Express Highway in less than 15 minutes using the elevated corridor.

At present, the CST Road in Kurla West, BKC and Kalina areas that are dotted with scrap and used motor part shops and garages see heavy traffic during peak hours. Locals say these shops take up almost a lane of SCLR in both directions. The work on the 3.8-km project started in 2017. Estimated to cost over Rs 400 crore, it will be a four-lane flyover with one arm going towards Kurla and another in the direction of BKC.
