Navi Mumbai: Case registered against firm proprietor, manager for food tampering

Police have registered a case against the proprietor of a New Delhibased company and its Navi Mumbai office manager for food tampering including of some popular brands and then selling them in the market an official said on Wednesday reported news agency PTIThe Food and Drug Administration FDA conducted a raid at the companys premises at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai township of Maharashtra on February 9 and 10 and seized the tampered stock of various food items valued at Rs 2452 lakh the official from Turbhe police station said reported PTIThe accused allegedly tampered with the batch number manufacture and expiry dates and labels displaying nutritional information and ingredients of the food products and then sold them in the market the police said quoting the FIR reported PTIBased on a complaint by the FDA officials the Turbhe police on Tuesday registered a case against the two accused for food tampering under various Indian Penal Code sections including 272 adulteration of food or drink intended for sale and 273 sale of noxious food or drink and the FDA regulations reported PTIIn another case a 30yearold labour contractor has been killed allegedly by six persons in Navi Mumbai township of Maharashtra following a dispute over a Mathadi site of headload workers police said on Wednesday reported PTIThe incident took place on Tuesday evening at Sector 10 in Nerul area during which the deceaseds wife also suffered injuries they said reported PTIThe deceased and one of the accused also in the same business had developed friendship during their time together in a prison reported PTIHowever later a dispute arose between them over a Mathadi site of headload workers in Mankhurd area of neighbouring Mumbai an official at Nerul police station said reported PTIThe dispute escalated on February 9 when the contractor and his wife were threatened by a group of individuals near a lake in Navi MumbaiOn Tuesday the accused person along with five other people intercepted the contractor and his wife while they were returning home with their child the official said reported PTIThe assailants allegedly attacked the couple with iron rods and sharp weapons resulting in the mans death His wife was seriously injured and hospitalised he said reported PTIFollowing a complaint by the wife of the deceased the Nerul police on Tuesday night registered a case against six persons under various Indian Penal Code sections including 302 murder and 307 attempt to murder and provisions of the Arms Act and the Maharashtra Police Act reported PTINo arrest has been made so far the police said adding a probe was on into the caseWith inputs from PTI
