The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a closure report in a case involving former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, claiming a lack of solid evidence on alleged extortion. The agency filed the report with Thane`s Chief Judicial Magistrate on January 18, and the court is slated to hear it in February, reported PTI.
According to the report, the case, which was initially registered in July 2021 at Thane`s Kopri police station, featured charges made by local businessman Sharad Agarwal. He alleged that Singh, a former deputy commissioner of police, and other real estate developers intimidated and extorted him for Rs 2 crore in order to acquire his land. The matter was eventually moved to the CBI.
