The 110-year-old bridge, which connects the Eastern Express Highway to Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Road and Dharavi Road, was declared dangerous a few years ago.
The Central Railway (CR) on Sunday began the process of dismantling Mumbai's Sion road overbridge during a five-hour daytime block. The work commenced at 10.55 am and continued until 3.55 pm.
“On Sunday, seven old girders of the Sion bridge were removed and the work will continue further,” a CR spokesperson said.
