On Monday morning, chaos erupted in the Central and Western suburban services due to technical snags. Glitches in the new signalling system set up recently by the Central Railway led to a delay in local train services on Monday morning, said CR officials.

Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, Dr Swapnil Nila said that all lines of CR were jammed up with delay of an hour due to the new signalling system failure. He added that the services on the fast line were affected more than that of slow services.

"Glitches in the new signalling system set up on Sunday have led to the collapse of morning peak hour on Monday as all lines have been jammed up with delays of an hour in all services," said officials. CR CPRO Dr Swapnil Nila said that the fast line has been affected more than that of CR and services would be restored soon.

Meanwhile, on Western Railway, due to a technical glitch, the train services were delayed. Although the restoration of the points has been completed, the work to restore services to normalcy is underway.

WR, in their latest update, said, "Point No 131/132 at Borivali station has also been put right at 10.57 hrs. Trains are operational over Mumbai Suburban with some delay, this will be normalised soon."

The Western Railway had earlier announced, "Due to some technical issues of cable being cut, points no 107/108, point no 111/112 & point no 131/132 are not operational currently therefore Suburban trains not being operated from platform nos 1 & 2 of Borivali Station."

They said, "Trains are being operated from Platforms 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 from Borivali station. Point Nos 107, 108 & 111 are being clamped and restoration work is ongoing at priority to restore normalcy."

The delay on the Western line caused the public to rush towards the metro; the MMRDA added additional services to alleviate the rush.
