A devastating fire at a chemical godown of the powerloom town of Bhiwandi in Thane district destroyed the godown, police said on Tuesday.

The fire started at about 8.00 pm yesterday and about a dozen fire tenders from Bhiwandi and surrounding areas fought the fire for more than six hours to combat the fire, they said. The fire was doused around five this morning, police said, adding that the cause of fire was still not known.
