Covid-19: Cases in Mumbai climb again, but doubling rate improves

On Tuesday, cases had fallen below 1,000 in Mumbai, but went up again the next day. It increased further on Thursday, when the BMC reported 1,425 new cases and 59 deaths

Daily Covid-19 cases in the city have once again started to climb, but the test positivity rate (TPR) has dipped below 5 per cent, for the first time since the second outbreak of novel Coronavirus, and the doubling rate of infections has also improved.

On Tuesday, cases had fallen below 1,000 in Mumbai, but went up again the next day. It increased further on Thursday, when the BMC reported 1,425 new cases and 59 deaths. The jump has been attributed to increased testing. Of the 59 deceased in Mumbai, 43 patients had comorbidities, 39 were aged above 60 years, while 18 were in the 40-60 age group.
