RTI reply to mid-day shows 230 city cops died of various reasons last year

The deaths in Mumbai’s police force rose by 60% in 2020 compared to previous years. The death toll was the highest among city cops till now, as the COVID-19 pandemic claimed 96 of them. The month of June was the worst with 21 fatalities. An RTI reply to mid-day has revealed that in 2020, a total of 230 Mumbai police died of various reasons. Apart from COVID, heart and liver diseases topped the list of reasons. Fortunately, there have been no deaths among cops due to COVID-19 in Mumbai in the year 2021.
