Covid-19: Maharashtra confirms 10 more Delta Plus cases

Ten new cases of novel Coronavirus's Delta Plus variant have been reported across Maharashtra, increasing the total tally to 76, the state health department stated in a report. All the 10 patients had recovered, a senior health official said on Monday.


Six of the 10 Delta Plus cases confirmed recently were from Kolhapur, three from Ratnagiri and one from Sindhudurg. As per the updated data, of the total 76 Delta Plus patients detected across Maharashtra, 15 are from Ratnagiri, 13 from Jalgaon, 11 from Mumbai, seven from Kolhapur, six each from Thane and Pune, three each from Raigad and Palghar, two each from Nanded, Gondia and Sindhudurg, and one each from Chandrapur, Akola, Sangli, Nandurbar, Aurangabad and Beed.  The report said 39 of these patients were in the 18-45 years age group, while 19 were aged between 46 and 60, nine were senior citizens and 18 were children.

The state official informed that 37 of the 76 cases had mild symptoms and were treated at home. Only 10 of the 76 cases had taken both the doses and 12 had taken only one dose. So far, five Covid-19 deaths in the state have been attributed to the Delta Plus variant. While two of these fatalities have been reported from Ratnagiri, one each has been recorded from Mumbai, Beed and Raigad. The deceased from Ratnagiri and Mumbai were fully vaccinated, while the rest had not even taken their first vaccine dose. All the five deceased were above the age of 65 and had comorbidities.

Officials said all the districts are on alert. Overall, Delta and Delta Plus variants were found in 80 per cent of the samples sent for genome sequencing, according to the state's report.
