Covid-19: Maharashtra govt extends lockdown-like restrictions till June 1

The state government circular stated that any person entering the state by any mode of transport will have to carry a negative RT-PCR test report, which will have to be issued from up to a maximum of 48 hours before the time of entry into Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra government on Thursday extended the lockdown-like restrictions till 7 am on June 1 to contain the spread of coronavirus. The announcement came a day after the cabinet meeting.


The state government circular stated that any person entering the state by any mode of transport will have to carry a negative RT-PCR test report, which will have to be issued from up to a maximum of 48 hours before the time of entry into Maharashtra.


“All the restrictions that have been made applicable to persons arriving from places of 'sensitive origins' as per the previous orders will be applicable to anyone arriving from any part of the country,” the circular read.


The office of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra shared the official circular on its twitter handle.

The circular also read that in the case of cargo carriers, not more than two people (Driver + Cleaner/ helper) may be allowed to travel in the same. If these cargo carriers are originating from outside the state, these may be allowed to enter with a negative RT-PCR test report which will have to be issued from up to a maximum of 48 hours before the time of entry into Maharashtra and which will be valid for 7 days.

“Milk collection, transport and processing may be allowed without restrictions through its retail sale shall be allowed subject to restrictions imposed on shops dealing with essential items or through home delivery. Personnel engaged in airport and port services and needed for movement of cargo related to medicines or equipment needed for Covid-19 management will be allowed to travel in local, mono and metro services,” read the circular.

Earlier the restrictions were imposed until May 15. As per the guidelines, private offices, non-essential shops and establishments will continue to remain completely shut.

Prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC, banning assembly of five or more people at one spot, are in force. At present, vegetable shops, grocery stores, and milk outlets are allowed to function only between 7 am and 11 am.
