Continuing its crackdown on unauthorised construction for the fourth day today after a blaze at an upscale pub in Mumbai killed 14 people, the civic body asked the owners of commercial establishments to assess, on their own, if their premises were compliant with all fire safety norms. Commercial establishment owners must assess themselves if they adhere to the Fire Codified Requirements, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said, adding that if they were found non-compliant they would face action.
