Both the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) seem internally divided as they prepare for the upcoming local body elections.

Regarding the inclusion of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in the MVA, Congress leaders have claimed that their party is independent and free to take decisions on whether to go solo for the local polls. In light of the Marathi language issue, the Thackeray cousins, Uddhav and Raj, buried differences that had existed for 20 years and hinted at a possible alliance for the local body elections, including a high-stakes battle for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
