The rate of Alphonso mango, a summer delicacy, has decreased by around Rs 1,000-Rs 1,500 in the APMC market. The mangoes, which were sold at Rs 2,000-Rs 5,000 per five dozens last week, now cost Rs 1,500 to Rs 4,000. The dip in price comes even as the production of Alphonso mangoes took a hit this year due to unwanted rain as well as heat, cutting the total produce by around 30-35 per cent. 

However, as the markets in Ratnagiri, Devgad and other production hubs have started supplying around 55,000 boxes to the APMC market from Monday, the rates have seen a downfall. Sanjay Pansare, a trader at APMC fruit market, said, “This is the perfect time to eat mangoes for Mumbaikars. Currently, good quality mangoes are available at reasonable rates. Along with Alphonso, even Kesar mango from West Maharashtra, Ratnagiri and Raigad are also available in the market.”
