Covid claims 13 lives on Sunday; across Maharashtra, 40,805 new infections were recorded along with 44 fatalities

Ahead of the reopening of schools in the city, new cases slipped to 2,550 on Sunday, with the test positivity rate dipping to 5.54 per cent. COVID claimed 13 lives during the day. Across Maharashtra, there was a significant drop in new infections as well as deaths. As per the state health department, there were 40,805 fresh cases with 44 deaths in Maharashtra.

In the third wave, the highest TPR recorded in Mumbai has been 29.9 per cent on January 06. At the peak of the second wave, the highest number of single-day infections had stood at 11,163.
Eleven of the 13 Covid fatalities in the city were comorbid. While one of them was in the age of 40-60 years, the rest were above 60.
Around 84 per cent of the patients turning positive on Sunday were asymptomatic as 337 people were hospitalised of which 40 are in oxygen beds.

The recovery rate remained constant at 96 per cent as 217 patients were discharged. The doubling rate improved to 125 days.
The state saw a significant dip in the number of cases as well as deaths. As per the state health department, 40,805 new cases and 44 deaths were reported across Maharashtra.
The state’s case-fatality rate continued to dip and was at 1.89 per cent. A total of 27,377 people were discharged during the day. The active cases stood at 2,93,305 on Sunday.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region registered 6,665 infections, a marginal dip. Raigad and Navi Mumbai reported 666 and 1,166 cases respectively, the highest in MMR after Mumbai. While Panvel saw 391 cases, Vasai-Virar had 189 cases and Thane city reported 369 cases. Other than Mumbai, the MMR saw eight deaths, of which 4 were in Kalyan-Dombivili, followed by two deaths in Navi Mumbai. Mira-Bhayandar and Raigad saw one death each.
