The first phase of Ganesh idol immersions marking the 1.5-day visarjan is underway across Mumbai on Thursday, with a total of 94 idols immersed till 12 pm.
According to official data, the immersions included 92 household (gharguti) idols and 2 Hartalika idols, while no sarvajanik (public) mandals carried out visarjan during this period.
In line with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) emphasis on eco-friendly practices, a significant number of devotees opted for artificial ponds. Of the total immersions, 63 idols—all household idols—were immersed in these specially created lakes.
