Mumbaikars to face heatwave conditions for the next two days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai, has issued a yellow alert with a warning of a heatwave in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts. 
Today, Mumbai recorded a temperature of 39 degrees Celsius and it is likely may remain the same for the next 48 hours.

The IMD forecast reads, &ldquo;Mainly clear sky, heatwave condition very likely to prevail at the isolated places in Mumbai.&rdquo;
As per the IMD website, on Monday, the IMD Colaba weather station recorded day temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius, 6.1 degrees above the normal mark and Santacruz recorded 38.6 degrees Celsius by 8.30 am. Humidity levels were 68 per cent in Colaba and 56 per cent at Santacruz.
The minimum or the night temperature is also expected to be 23 degrees for the next two days. 
On Sunday, Mumbai recorded a temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius.

Do&rsquo;s and Donts Advisory by BMC
To minimize the impact during the heatwave and to prevent serious ailment or death because of heatstroke, you can take the following measures:
<ul>
<li>Avoid going out in the sun, especially between 12.00 noon and 3.00 p.m</li>
<li>Drink sufficient water and as often as possible, even if not thirsty</li>
<li>Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose, and porous cotton clothes. Use protective goggles, umbrella/hat, shoes or chappals while going out in sun</li>
<li>While traveling carry water with you</li>
<li>Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks, which dehydrates the body</li>
<li>Avoid high-protein food and do not eat stale food</li>
<li>Do not leave children or pets in parked vehicles</li>
<li>If you feel faint or ill, see a doctor immediately</li>
<li>Use ORS, homemade drinks like lassi, rice water, lemon water, buttermilk, etc. which helps to rehydrate the body</li>
</ul>
 If any person gets affected by a Sunstroke:
<ul>
<li>Lay the person in a cool place, under a shade. Wipe her/him with a wet cloth/wash the body frequently. Pour normal temperature water on the head. The main thing is to bring down the body temperature</li>
<li>Give the person ORS to drink in order to rehydrate the body</li>
<li>Take the person immediately to the nearest health centre. The patient needs immediate hospitalization, as heat strokes could be fatal.</li>
