IMD issues yellow alert for multiple districts in Maharashtra

The India Meteorological Department IMD on Wednesday issued a yellow alert for several districts in Maharashtra warning of light spells of rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds over the next few hoursAccording to the IMDrsquos nowcast bulletin issued at 700 am the alert mdash valid for the next three hours mdash covers Jalgaon Dhule Nashik Palghar Thane Raigad Ratnagiri Kolhapur Sangli Mumbai City Mumbai Suburban and Pune districtsResidents have been advised to exercise caution and avoid waterlogged areas during the rainfall spellThe IMD also forecast light to moderate rain and thunderstorms at some locations with isolated heavy rainfall likely over Konkan amp Goa and Marathwada on October 29 and over Madhya Maharashtra and the Gujarat region between October 29ndash31 Isolated very heavy rainfall is also expected over Saurashtra and Kutch during this periodAdditionally the weather department warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30ndash40 kmph across parts of western India over the next five daysThe IMD attributed these conditions to a depression over the eastcentral Arabian Sea which has been moving northeastward at around 8 kmph over the past six hoursAs of 230 am on October 29 the depression was located approximately 440 km southwest of Veraval Gujarat 420 km westsouthwest of Mumbai Maharashtra 570 km westnorthwest of Panjim Goa 820 km northwest of Mangaluru Karnataka and 840 km northnorthwest of Aminidivi Lakshadweep the IMD said in its updateThe system is expected to continue moving northeastward across the easterncentral Arabian Sea over the next 36 hours potentially influencing coastal weather conditions along Maharashtra and GujaratMeanwhile the India Meteorological Department IMD on Wednesday said that Severe Cyclonic Storm Montha has weakened into a Cyclonic Storm over the coastal Andhra Pradesh and will maintain the intensity of cyclonic storm during the next six hoursAs per the weather department the Severe Cyclonic Storm Montha over coastal Andhra Pradesh moved nearly northwestwards with a speed of 10 kmph during past six hours weakened into a Cyclonic Storm and lay centered at 0230 hrs IST of today the 29th October 2025 near latitude 165degN amp longitude 815degE about 20 km westnorthwest of Narsapur Andhra Pradesh 50 km northeast of Machilipatnam Andhra Pradesh 90 km westsouthwest of Kakinada Andhra Pradesh 230 km southwest of Visakhapatnam Andhra Pradesh and 470 km southwest of Gopalpur Odisha
