Janmashtami 2025: 95 injured, two critical; one dies in Dahi Handi mishap

He was taken to Shatabdi Hospital in Govandi but was declared as brought dead, the hospital said; injuries recorded in central, western, and eastern zones are 48, 17, and 10, respectively

Multiple injuries have been reported in Mumbai as the celebrations of Janmashtami commenced in the city during heavy rainfall on Saturday. Information has been recorded by various hospitals in Mumbai and Thane that till 9pm on Saturday, around 95 people playing Govinda have been injured, with 19 undergoing treatment, 2 in critical condition, and 76 being discharged.

Injuries recorded in central, western, and eastern zones are 48, 17, and 10, respectively. One death has been announced of a 32-year-old male, Jagmohan Shivkiran Chaudhari, who fell from the first floor of his house while tying a rope, at Maharashtra Nagar in Mankhurd. He was taken to Shatabdi Hospital in Govandi but was declared as brought dead, the hospital said.

In another serious injury reported in Tanaji Nagar, Kurar village, Malad east, a nine-year-old boy, Aryan Yadav, fell during a household Dahi Handi in a chawl at 3.30 pm, and is being treated at the Dr Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivli. He is said to be in critical condition. GT Hospital has also reported that a 23-year-old, Shreyas Chalke, is in critical condition.
