Mumbai's lifeline—local train—along with lakhs of commuters along Central Railway will continue to suffer for some more time as the work on Kalwa road bridge has been halted due to pending finishing and signage works by the Thane Municipal Corporation. Following a review by Member of Parliament Dr Shrikant Shinde, a new deadline of December 2021 has now been set for the completion of the works.

As the bridge is still incomplete, the railways have been unable to close the level crossing gate that detains the maximum number of trains on the main slow line. It has also affected the new fifth and sixth lines that are being built.
