A former MLA was among eight people injured in a collision between a car and bus on the national highway in Maharashtra's Akola district on Saturday, police told news agency PTI.

The accident occurred on the highway near Kurankhed village in the district around 12 pm, an official told PTI.
Former Buldhana MLA Vijayraj Shinde (58) was travelling towards Amravati with four of his supporters when their car collided with a bus heading to Akola, the official told PTI.
The former legislator, three of his supporters and four passengers from the bus sustained injuries in the accident, the official told PTI, adding that the injured have been admitted to a private hospital in Akola.
The police have initiated a probe into the incident, the official told PTI.
Earlier this week, four teenagers were injured, three of them seriously, when a speeding car driven by a senior citizen rammed into them outside Mumbai CSMT train station, a police official told PTI.
The seriously injured teenagers were admitted in the ICU of a government-run hospital in south Mumbai, the official told PTI.
According to the Azad Maidan police station official, the accident took place at around 19.30 hours on Tuesday when car driver Dilip Chatwani (78) lost control over the wheels and rammed the vehicle into the four youngsters, aged between 17 and 18 years, after hitting a school bus, reported PTI.
Chatwani was on way to his home in Mahim from south Mumbai, while the youngsters were walking towards the railway station when the accident took place, the official told PTI.

"Three of the youths, all residents of Sewri, were badly injured and recuperating in the ICU, while the fourth one was stated to be out of danger," the official told PTI.
The elderly car driver, who escaped unhurt in the crash, was detained and his vehicle seized, the official told PTI, adding further investigation was underway.
In another incident, a man was killed and two others were injured after a speeding car hit them in Narayan Peth area here on Friday evening, police told PTI.
The incident took place near the Z Bridge which connects Narayan Peth to Deccan Gymkhana around 10.30 pm. The car also hit an autorickshaw, injuring two people, an official told PTI.
