The state cabinet on Tuesday gave its clearance for the establishment of the State Scheduled Tribe Commission (SSTC). The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The decision to have an independent SSTC was taken following the Tribal Advisory Council recommendation to set up a separate Scheduled Tribes Commission.
According to the proposal approved by the cabinet, the SSTC will be formed along the lines of the State Scheduled Commission. In a statement issued by the chief minister’s office, it said that the SSTC will consist of a chairman and four non-official members.
“Twenty-six new posts will be created for the commission. Provision of Rs 4.20 crore, too, was approved by the cabinet. The approved funds will be used for salaries, allowances and office infrastructure,” it said.
