The body of a three-four months old boy has been found in a drain in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-two-arrested-from-thane-in-jewellery-theft-case-23348134" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane district</a> of Maharashtra, police said on Wednesday, reported news agency PTI.
A passer-by spotted the child lying in the drain at Vitawa in Kalwa area on Monday night.
After being alerted, police rushed to the spot and took the infant to a local hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, the official from <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/ulhasnagar-woman-arrested-for-kidnapping-child-from-poor-couple-23348072" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Kalwa police station</a> said, reported PTI.
The police have registered a case under Indian Penal Code section 317 (exposure and abandonment of child under 12 years by parent or caretaker) against unidentified persons and are conducting a probe into it, he said.
In another incident, in February, a dead body of an unidentified man was found in the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-two-persons-arrested-for-killing-friend-after-dispute-in-thane-23347965" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Kalwa creek</a> in Thane district of Maharashtra, a civic official said, reported the PTI, reported PTI.
According to the PTI, the fire brigade was alerted about the body by passers-by around 11.30 am, said chief of the disaster management cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation, Yasin Tadvi.
The deceased was around 35-40 years old. The body was sent for autopsy while <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/chemical-powder-spills-on-road-after-truck-accident-in-thane-no-one-injured-23347930" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Kalwa police</a> are conducting further probe, Tadvi said.
In an another incident, a man allegedly stabbed his male colleague to death before hanging himself at a garment unit in Sakinaka area of Mumbai, police said, reported the PTI.
Prima facie, an argument between them on some issue led to the crime, an official said.
The incident came to light this morning after the owner of the garment unit, located in Sakinaka area, found the door locked from inside, a police official said.
"The owner asked a staffer to enter the unit by climbing from an adjacent shop. He spotted the body of Saddam Hussain Mohammed Ahmed Shaikh, 31, hanging on the mezzanine floor," he said, reported PTI.
The owner then called the police.
"Police used a cutter to break open the door to gain entry. The body of another employee, identified as Mohammed Ayyaz Nayab Ahmed Shaikh, 22, was found lying with injuries," the official said, the news agency reported, reported PTI.
Prima facie, Saddam Hussain stabbed Mohammed Ayyaz with a pair of scissors in the throat, stomach and chest, before hanging himself, he said, reported PTI.
A case under Indian Penal Code sections for murder and accidental death has been registered and further investigation is underway.
