A team of Mahavitaran who went to collect electricity bill arrears was attacked in Kalyan's Malangharh area


The incident took place in Kakadwal village on Wednesday. The Hill line Police has started the process of registering a case. Three employees of the Mahavitaran have sustained injuries while three to four residents were injured too. 


Malanggarh area in Kalyan East zone of Mahavitaran has the highest rate of electricity theft. Therefore, the Mahavitaran is currently conducting electricity meter inspection and collection of dues. 


On Wednesday, one of the Mahavitran's flying squad that went to check meters in Kakadwal village of Malanggad district was attacked. The residents of the house who attacked the executive engineers were also injured. The injured Mahavitaran employees and officials were rushed for treatment to Ulhasnagar's Central Hospital.

"The team had gone to Kakdwal village for inspection. In the place where the incident happened, their electricity bill is 30,000 to 40,000 overdue. Their electricity meter is also removed. Meanwhile, there is a four-storey bungalow. They have only 10 units with an electricity bill of Rs 200. We were all investigating the matter. During the investigation, one of the gentlemen of the house directly attacked us," Ravindra Bhiwaji Nahere, Assistant Engineer - Kalyan East, said.

Recently in Newali, a Mahavitaran employee was beaten up. Local MLA Ganpat Gaikwad also rushed to the police station along with the villagers as soon as he got the information that the employees and officials of Mahavitaran were beaten up. 

Mahavitaran claims that about 70 per cent of electricity is stolen in the Malanggarh area. The process of filing a case is underway at the Hill line Police Station and the police are conducting further investigations.

"Mahavitran is incurring losses due to power theft. It is mostly happening in the Malanggarh area. They went to verify it. Due to some misunderstanding, the residents and the team had clashed. Even the police officers were manhandled. Legal action is being taken in this regard. Police will take action against those who are guilty," Ganpat Gaikwad, MLA from Kalyan (East), said.
