The police in Maharashtra have arrested six persons from Solapur for allegedly committing a theft in Palghar, an official said on Friday, reported news agency PTI.

The six allegedly broke into a house in Arnala in Palghar district on December 1, 2023, and stole valuables and Rs 25,000 in cash, the official said, reported PTI.

The Arnala Sagar police registered a case and began a probe, reported PTI.

Speaking about six held for committing theft in Palghar district, senior inspector Pramod Badakh of Crime Unit-III, Virar, said they were questioning the individuals in connection with another case when they learnt about their role in the theft at Arnala, reported PTI.

In another case, the police in Maharashtra's Palghar district have registered a case against a man and a woman for allegedly duping a Dubai-based company of about Rs 1. 7 crore, an official said on Thursday, reported PTI.

The case was registered by the Tulinj police on a complaint by the Dubai-based company's representative, who is based in Palghar district, he said, reported PTI.

The complainant's company had in January 2022 placed an order with a firm from Delhi to buy electrical fittings worth about Rs 5 crore. It also made an initial payment of nearly Rs 1.96 crore, the complainant said, reported PTI.

While the Delhi-based company dispatched goods worth Rs 26.5 lakh, the buyer claimed that they did not meet the specified standards, reported PTI.

Subsequently, the seller did not deliver the remaining materials worth nearly Rs 1.7 crore despite having received the payment, prompting the buyer to lodge a complaint, reported PTI.

The Tulinj police on Tuesday booked Vikas Tanwar and Pushpa Tanwar, owners of the Delhi firm, for cheating the buyer of nearly Rs 1.7 crore, the official said, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, a murder-accused on the run since 2019 was arrested in Palghar district, a police official said on Thursday, reported PTI.

On January 5, six persons were held from the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway while planning to carry out an armed dacoity at a petrol pump in Shirsad phata, Crime Branch Unit III (Virar) senior inspector Pramod Badakh said, reported PTI.

"They were held from Jivdani helipad area. One Suresh Manaje (48), a resident of Mumbai who ran a hotel in Dubai, was killed by dacoits on July 19,2019. Manish Chouhan, who was involved in the murder, was among the six who were arrested on January 5," he said, reported PTI.
