Maharashtra to introduce elective courses on Sikh martyrdom

The Maharashtra State Punjabi Sahitya Academy's Executive Chairman, Bal Malkit Singh, officially submitted a letter Maharashtra CM Fadnavis, urging the government to include the course in the state's curriculum. The Maharashtra State Punjabi Sahitya Academy, in collaboration with the 11-Member Sikh Coordination Committee, has proposed a new elective course on Sikh Martyrdom (1500–1765), officials said on Wednesday.

The move is a major step to promote Sikh history and values in education.

The course is aimed at being introduced in schools, colleges, and universities across Maharashtra, an official statement said.
