Maharashtra: Vasai pilot dies in Canada plane crash

Three people, including two Indians, were killed in a plane crash in the city of Chilliwack in Canada’s British Columbia on Friday. The plane was a twin-engined light aircraft that reportedly crashed into trees and bushes behind a motel, near a local airport.


One of the two Indians— Abhay Gadroo—belonged to Evershine City in Vasai. Gadroo died at a time when his parents were doing the Char Dham Yatra. mid-day tried to contact his parents, who are in Delhi at present and returning to Mumbai on Sunday, but they were not in a condition to talk.


Speaking with mid-day, Gadroo’s childhood friend Gaurav Goel said, “Abhay spent his childhood in Vasai and studied at Thakur College, Kandivli. Later, he moved to Canada for commercial pilot licence training. He was in Canada for the last three years. He was about to complete his training by November this year.”


“We came to know that a small plane, carrying three people, including Abhay, crashed at 2 pm Canada time on Friday at the time of his training,” said Goel, who is a chartered accountant by profession.

Gadroo lived with his parents and younger brother in Vasai. His mother is a retired teacher from a government school in Sion and father Anil Gadroo worked in a medical equipment supplying company.

Gadroo’s family originally hails from Kashmir and had been living in Vasai for many years. The mortal remains of Gadroo are yet to come to India, as the law enforcement agencies in Canada are conducting investigations.
