Anil Deshmukh, former state home minister, has requested the Maharashtra government to table the report filed by the Justice K U Chandiwal Commission—which was set up to probe allegations of corruption against him by the then-police commissioner Parambir Singh—in the Assembly. The report was submitted to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government on April 26, 2022. The MLA was speaking on various issues, including the crime rate in the state, in the budget session on Wednesday when he brought up Singh’s allegations. The Bombay High Court and Supreme Court passed judgment in that regard, too. However there was one report pending with the state government after the 13-month probe was conducted by the committee. “I request the government to table the report in the House for approval so that the public knows the findings of the report,” Deshmukh said. Chandiwal, a retired justice of the Bombay High Court, was appointed to lead the probe in March 2021 after Singh, in a letter addressed to the chief minister and other high-ranking officials, accused Deshmukh of running an extortion racket wherein he had asked police officers to collect Rs 100 crore from bar and restaurant owners every month.
